in every fandom there is that 1 fic that goes above and beyond and ruins reading for you cause nothing will ever measure up to that 1 fic’s absolute shining glory. Sansukh is that fic in the LOTR/Hobbit fandom.

omg that’s fabulously kind of you, Nonnie, and I am STAGGERING with the flattery and the gratitude and the bashful stammery blushery flail…!

I’m so glad you enjoy Sansukh, and I’m thrilled that it’s made such an impression on you! But I gotta gently disagree with the ‘1 fic’ thing, bc there are always LOADS. Every fandom i’ve been in is the same – it isn’t just one fic, there are a whole boatload of works that make you stagger and reel with how inhumanly talented everybody is, how did they think of this perfect au setting, that incredible bit of dialogue, characterisation so perfect that it is uncanny, that stupendous jawdropping climax…!?!

There are INCREDIBLE fics out there in the LOTR fandom, I can name 20 without even thinking hard about it, that are just. game-changingly awesome

This is an old fandom, too, and it’ll continue after all the current folks have meandered on elsewhere. There are fics yet to be written that will kick the shit out of Sansukh, and I can’t WAIT to read them!

Could a dwarf ever find their One in the halls of Mahal? I know that sort of happens with Ori and Bifur, but they knew each other while they were alive. What about two dwarves who lived hundreds of years apart? Mostly I’m curious about what that would be like, but I’m also specifically remembering Zhori being so unlucky in love during her lifetime.

Yeah, totally! Dwarves can fall in love in the Halls, and it doesn’t matter whether they knew each other in life or not. That has no bearing on the connections they make in the Halls.

It takes a LOT longer, though, because of the enormous emotional intertia of the Halls. They make things slooooooow dooooooown – which is awesome for healing, because it gives you time to process things! But a little less brilliant for grappling with attraction, I am guessing.

Talk about the slowest of slow burns, heh

determamfidd:

In Western Lands (Sam’s Song).

This is the final
song planned for Sansûkh, composed and performed by me for SSAA choir.

It will be linked
in the fic on AO3 RIGHT after I write the words, ‘The End’ in Chapter 50.

The poem is from Return
of the King,
and is sung by Sam Gamgee. It
has been suggested
that it was originally penned by a certain Mr. Bilbo Baggins.

This composition is
lovingly dedicated to my dear friend, @poplitealqueen. Love ya, mate.

Sheet music for download is here. Lyrics reproduced
under the cut.

Do you have any songs that really remind you of Sansukh and Lotr in general? Bands in particular that give you a vibe for the dwarves, that kind of thing?

Not really songs, or bands, per se. I tend to write the music I want to hear for the Dwarves and for Sansukh myself, lmao. This could be bc I am a giant glutton for punishment

out of the stuff I have written, the most ‘Sansukh-ish’ ones are Light on the Horizon, and In Western Lands (Sam’s Song)

The most especially Dwarvish one is ‘The Iron Hills For Me’ – which surprises absolutely nobody, I am sure :)… but also the Broadbeam Cradle-Song, and Gimli’s Jig

I have had headcanony thoughts about Dwarven music before, though! Here is a big ole post about it.

Inktobers #4 & #5: I was getting ready to start another expression meme dwarrowdam from @determamfidd‘s Sansuhk when I realized I hadn’t already designed her, so here is some concept stuff for Kara (that Ashkar ended up happening on as well)

*shallow breathing*

OH MY GOOD GRAVY HELP

THIS IS AMAZING – I LOVE THEM I LOVE THEM I LOVE THEM I LOVE THEM I LOVE THEM I LOVE THEM

I LOVE THEM I LOVE THEM I LOVE THEM

I LOVE THEM I LOVE THEM I LOVE THEM

yessss the bright colours and intricate patterns! The headscarves, the nose chain, THAT BLUE-BEADED BEARD! *explodes*

Squiddie! Squiddie oh my goDDD I am totally gasping, these are amazing, these are more gorgeous and more them than I ever could have imagined, better than I ever dreamed! YOU ARE BRILLIANT THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU SO MUCH!

Out of curiosity, do you write or headcanon Legolas as autistic? I noticed some of my own tendencies of confusion and strange lacks of shame in your writings of him.

I hadn’t! I tend to explicitly state all the representation I have put into the fic, so that there’s no erm… Dumbledoring.*

But what a great interpretation, I love it! Nonnie, if autistic!Legolas is what you see, then it’s as valid a reading as any other.

I’m now reminded of a quote from Boojum!: “Still, if words mean more than we mean to express when we use them, and if there are some good meanings in the book, I’m very glad to accept them.”

So, if there’s anything in the story that works for you, I’m very glad to accept it 🙂

*by this, I mean any minority representation that is not openly stated in the text itself, but is added as an afterthought through word-of-author. Like Dumbledore

Hey dets this is kinda personal but I hope you don’t mind. Anyway I’m asexual and usually avoid any media with sexual content, But there are a few authors I’ll read Absolutely Anything they write regardless and you’re one of them; I gotta get the Complete Sansûkh story. I love it. “Sansûkh” has actually entered itself into my autocorrect suggestions. I hope you keep writing as long as it makes you happy.

Hey Nonnie. Thank you SO much for sharing, and I’m so honoured that you read my work. And I am so flustered to hear that ‘Sansukh’ is in your autocorrect – it isn’t in MY autocorrect, and now I feel like lsjahdgflajghfdakhgfakhga whoa wut
