hey all, sorry I haven’t been on in so long. Mr Dets is currently away for work (IN PERTH slkdghfljshdfa), and will be gone on this particular job for some time, so I am Single-Parenting atm, work has been madness and now I have managed to get the flu. YAAAAY.

So I am home sick today, bleh. Still, even if I am sick, it is kinda nice to just. stop, for a bit.

I’m gonna get to answering all these asks in a mo.

I hope you feel better soon!

Thanks, darling Nonnie. I feel like steamrollered shit, but hey! I got a plug-in keyboard for my laptop now! So the shiny silver lining is that I’ve gotten tons of writing done.

Seriously, I think??? I have ch44 in the bag. I think. *bites fingers to nubs* THINK. idk about the mood and pacing tho. I just don’t know.

AUGH you know how I get before I post a chapter, I am a nervous wreck rn

I’m gonna do one last read/edit/possible re-write. Watch this space.

Summer Cold {Parentshield}

rutobuka2:

yubiwamonogatari:

A little drabble (A REAL DRABBLE) for @rutobuka2, who’s sick atm ;O;! I hope this heals u a little bit:

Frodo woke with a whimper, turning his head from one side to the other and blinking his eyes open.

“Shh,” Thorin murmured. He gently stroked his hand over the tangled mess of Frodo’s dark curls – matted with sleep, and sweat from a newly broken fever. “I’m here, lad.”

The little hobbit nodded, pressing his face against Thorin’s chest, laying on top of him. When the boy had fallen sick to a vicious cold Thorin’s kind could withstand, he’d offered to look after him. He’d had, as he’d pointed out, his fair share of caring for sick pebbles with Fíli and Kíli over the years, and with Frodo waking every half hour or so, it would be good for someone to sit with him.

Frodo coughed miserably, it ending in a wet sneeze and a whine.

“’M still sick…” he said. “Dis is duh worst cold I eber had…”

“And with only ten long years under your beard, I can believe it,” Thorin replied, placing a cool cloth on Frodo’s forehead. “Here. Take a little of this.” He held the little wooden cup to Frodo’s lips. Inside was a cool chamomile tea, mixed with honey to hide the bitter willow bark, but Frodo only managed a few sips before turning his head away.

Still, a mouthful every so often was better than none. He ran his fingers over Frodo’s head again, handing him one of many handkerchiefs strewn around the bedroom. Frodo blew his nose and handed it back.

Thorin carefully put it aside and then wiped the cool cloth over Frodo’s face.

“Are you hungry? There’s a little summer soup, if you can manage it.”

“No,” Frodo sighed, closing his eyes and looking like the picture of misery. Bilbo had only grown worried about the illness when Frodo – already a little slip of a fauntling, pale and slender – had started refusing meals.

Thorin brushed Frodo’s curls back from his face.

“Are you sure? Not one mouthful?”

Frodo sighed heavily and, without opening his eyes, opened his mouth. Thorin made sure to pack the spoon with the vegetables in the soup, feeding the boy his single mouthful and not pushing for him to take more. He knew all to well that stuffing an unwell pebble – or fauntling – with food often led to a resurfacing.

“Good lad,” he said, feeling Frodo’s limbs getting heavier as the little boy drifted back to sleep.

“Can you sing a song…?” Frodo asked, voice almost inaudible. “Duh far ober one…”

“Of course,” Thorin said, resting his hand on Frodo’s little back and starting to sing.

Far over the Misty Mountains cold…

;O;

(Dets have you read deadcatwithaflamethrower’s Re-entry verse??? because it’s fantastic and has so much obi-wan and aaaaahhhh it’s great)

I AM DEFINITELY GOING TO BE ABOUT TO BE READING IT IN THE VERY NEAR FUTURE

*sheepish smile*

No really – I have a lot of friends who are howling at me to read it, and I really want to!!! I’m not as invested in the Prequel Trilogy as I am in the OT or the new one, but I am absolutely convinced that this is the series that will change my mind. I am hugely looking forward to it! 🙂

Lately it’s a bit tricky for me to find time for reading fic – I still have no smartphone, this is my phone rn and it is DREADFUL – and I’m back at work (with all its delightful Education Filters and lack of time to blink) and the Dwarfling has been very sick and unhappy. It’s been a bit manic. So if you’re wondering why I dash online, reblog madly for five minutes, and disappear, now you know 😀

I’m getting through all the new works of my friends and also those fics that are being recced to me slooooowly… Currently I am reading Leupagus’ amazing fic To the Sky Without Wings, recced to me by @elenothar –  and oH MY GOD THE POE FEELS, THE POE AND THE LUKE FEELS, THEY STIIIING I LOVE IT. When I’ve finished that, I have Fishy’s new chapter to read!

Things should calm down soon, once the new term has settled into the swing of it, and once the Dwarfling isn’t so ill.
I’ve also got to finish my Hobbitcon 4 fanbook story, and write the Giveaway fics, and there’s always ch41 grinning at me from the background and yiiiikes, idk Nonnie, I am getting a bit overwhelmed just thinking about it.

I ALSO REALLY WANT A NEW PHONE – I miss reading fic on my phone when waiting for things, it’s REALLY annoying to have such an ancient brick!!!

Come onnnnnnn next paydayyyyyy

Little Gimizh having a “God of Cake” moment about cookies. Probably at Dis’ birthday party. It’s adorable. Wee Thorin tried to contain him but had to give up because there’s only so much that can be done about tiny sugar-fuelled dwarflings.

OMFG though – the ‘God of Cake’ isn’t exactly adorable (though it is hysterical!!!) and I can totally see Gimizh having a sugar-induced feeding frenzy complete with being sick and tantrums and howling… all the while secure in the knowledge that HE WON. THE. COOKIES. Take that!
