what do you think would happen if Kili decided that since Mahal’s hands were tied, he should just go annoy every other Valar until they changed the system altogether?

*shrug* Dunno. Two major stumbling-blocks with the idea, though: 1. First Kili would have to find the other Valar. Manwe & Varda are up on top of Mt Taniquetil, Ulmo lives in the waters, Yavanna has her gardens, Lorien in… well, Lorien, and etc etc – they’re VERY spread out, all over the continent in fact.

And Kili is dead, stuck in the Halls of the Dwarven Dead, separate even from all other afterlives…

2. I doubt any of the other Valar would consider it. They’ve all seen what happens when one deliberately disobeys the plan of Eru Iluvatar, and they’ve all been loyal to the Song of Arda and Eru’s plan since the beginning (despite a few minor AULE hiccups).

That said, I do think that Kili’s powers of irritation might just be up to the task 🙂

I read the anon question about wifi in Valinor and thought of this head canon: In the Halls of Mandos, the elves learn about what happens from seeing Vaire’s tapestries. How fast do you think that she and her helpers make those? (And if she doesn’t have helpers, I’m not sure if she does or not, it would take even longer.) I imagine that there were be times when there wouldn’t be a new tapestry up for a while and that is the equivalent of TVs shows going on hiatus and breaks. (Part 1)

(Part 2) Like, they’re completely engrossed in the tapestry depicting their families and friends, eagerly scrolling down it to see what happens next, and being utterly disappointed to see that it ends on a cliffhanger or that something they didn’t see coming happens and they have to wait for Vaire and her helpers to finish the next one. (At this point, it’s not uncommon to hear elves yell and, um, ‘comment’ loudly on the events.) (Poor Namo.)

(Part 3) It’s even worse for the elves who are outside of/have left the Halls. They always have to wait longer to learn what happens. So they end up asking (read: interrogating) the newly reborn elves and arrivals for news.

BAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Now to me this begs the question: which of the elves coughMAGLORcough write speculative fanfic and meta in-between ‘seasons’/tapestries?

Everybody I ask says that if a mortal goes to Valinor they don’t die, but I’m pretty sure I read that they still die. What do you think?

Sadly it is total fanon. They still die.

askmiddlearth has good guides on the afterlives, and an essay on Mortals in Valinor (which btw is called the Undying Lands because only immortals have traditionally lived there, not because by living there you magically become immortal).

And yeah. Sorry. Everybody gets separated in the afterlife too.

okay, okay – please put the knives down, omfg… look looooook

Elves everywhere!  My lovely Maedhros, rattle-and-burn, and I did a long photoshoot with the equally lovely ambrorussa at Katsucon~  Got some really nice individual shots of Fingon, since there have been a few tweaks since the first time I wore it (I believe Nelyo’s are
on her blog), and plenty of Russingon because we are complete shipper
trash XD

So what if the orcs we see as being leaders were actually high elves/elves that were old or especially wise, and were taken by Morgoth or Sauron for this purpose? I mean, there are many elves that are presumed dead, or with all the battles could have been spirited away. (pointedly doesn’t look at Maglor here)

LOTS of elves, yeah! Tolkien does mention specifically in the Silm that Melkor nicked the Elves who ran away when

Oromë invited everybody to the party in Valinor. So, they would have been of the Avari mostly, I guess.

There’s a hint in Morgoth’s Ring (THOME) that some leaders amongst the Orcs were in fact Maiar who had chosen Orc-form rather than Man-shape like Gandalf and his pals. The Great Goblin is suggested to be one of these (!!).

But there’s nothing to suggest that Elves of other clans/families might not have been stolen later on, too! idk, I really have no idea on this particular issue. I was just trying to answer the question as best I could 🙂

(the idea of an Orc whose eyes glitter with a strange light sometimes, whose fingers ache for harp-strings instead of the hilt of his wicked sword, who is ever-driven by a terrible unending compulsion – as though words spoken long ago are whipping at his heels –  is a very very heartbreaking one, Nonnie. Ouch.)

mathiaarkoniel:

Maedhros and Fingon.

Cell-shaded personal project. This piece was inspired by the following part in the Silmarillion:

But Fingon climbed to the foot of the precipice where his kinsman
hung, and then could go no further; and he wept when he saw the cruel
device of Morgoth. Maedhros therefore, being in anguish without hope,
begged Fingon to shoot him with his bow
; and Fingon strung an arrow, and
bent his bow. And seeing no better hope he cried to Manwe, saying: ‘O
King to whom all birds are dear, speed now this feathered shaft, and
recall some pity for the Noldor in their need!’

I really want to draw one more Silmarillion illustration, but I have SO many ideas inspired by at least 20 scenes, that I cannot decide on a single one. So, I am asking for your help, gals and guys, if you are interested.

Please suggest some scenes from the Silmarillion that you would like me to possibly illustrate. I will illustrate —in a cell-shaded style— one of your requested scenes in the next month or so.

I ask only one thing:

  • The scene should be of elves up to the end of the Second Age (please no Third or Fourth age scenes, cause I don’t like that time, sadly). The scene can contain humans/dwarves/orcs, as long as an Elf (male or female) is in it as well, preferably as the main focus.

Thanks so much! I am looking greatly forward to your suggestions.
