Every time I think about that sneak peek with Tauriel I start wheezing because, while it gave me all the feels, it also gave me the mental image of Tauriel bursting through the doors to the Halls and everybody just. Stares at her. And then she sees Thorin Oakenshield and she’s like, “Oh heeeey, uh, my guy, long time no see, I know you hate elves but uh, if you could just put that sword down,” and then is horrified when he starts laughing hysterically because of fucking course she’s here why not.

I started dying at Tauriel calling Thorin ‘my guy’ and haven’t stopped

So I’ve been re-skimming some LotR in between looking for new books to read and Boromir mentions his brother like, three times in the Council of Elrond. And I realize it’s dramatic foreshadowing shit, but consider (modern au apparently) Boromir who just talks about his brother all the time and has so many pictures:

“Hobbits like poetry? My brother won a poetry contest in third grade!!! You know who’d love to hear more about Dwarves? My brother. Gosh, I can’t wait until we all get to Minas Tirith so I can show you all the best things about my city and you can meet my brother.”

“Yeah, I’ve seen Boromir, he’s a great dude,” says Eomer, “but I hear he talks about his brother a lot?”

“How do I know you’ve actually met my brother?” asks Faramir. “And how do you know who I am?”

LOTR fact: In Tolkien’s first draft of The Fellowship of The Ring, Aragorn was a hobbit with wooden feet.

I’m not making this up. His nickname was Trotter.

According to those early drafts published by Tolkien’s son, Trotter has basically the same badass dialogue and “I could kill you in a second” attitude as Aragorn.

Just imagine what we could have gotten:

Trotter is not some Tyrion-Lannister-style badass or axe-wielding Gimli.
He’s a lil hobbit with big clumsy wooden feet and all the fighting skills of a seven-year-old who just struts around like he’s a 6-foot tall master swordsman heir of Isildur.

Like a chihuahua who believes he’s a mastiff.

Also, in that first draft he’s called “Trotter” because his wooden feet make loud “Clop-trot” sounds whenever he walks (ideal for ranger stealth missions.)

TL; DR: I need a Lord of the Rings AU where everything is the same but Strider is replaced by Trotter
