The Sansûkh group has finally come to life at DragonCon!!! We were missing Dís today, but she’ll join us on Sunday for our big photoshoot ❤ And we won best group in the Evening at Bree contest and danced to the best of our corseted, bearded ability xD

the-dragongirl:

And now it’s time for a late night cosplay progress post, because I got caught up working on this and lost track of time. I spent almost seven hours today in ninety degree heat moving all my possesions into a different storage place. While this sucked in terms of being tired and sore and overheated, it DID mean that I was able to extract all my costumes, as well as my sewing tools and wig maintanence tools, from storage. Therefore, I was at last able to style the wig and beard for Ymris!

It took SO much work making this extremely cheap and crappy wig and beard set look decent. I shudder to think about how much fabric softener, baby powder, and hairspray is in this wig right now. However, I am pretty pleased with how it looks. Since Ymris is supposed to be a great beauty, I figured she needed a more elaborate braiding style than I am using for Baris. I also wanted to add SOME elements that indicated her place in Dori, Nori, and Ori’s ancestory. Not sure how well I accomplished that last, but hey, I think it’s pretty good for a cosplay I didn’t even decide to do until three weeks before the con.

Now, because I am wearing this with a super jangly belly dance costume, I may sew bells into the wig and beard, assuming the giant supply of bells I ordered shows up in time. But either way, it is now in a wearable state.

Since Hobbit Big Bang is posting at last, I can finally reveal to all of you one of the few podfics I managed to complete during the last month of dissertation hell: a podfic of @determamfidd‘s beautiful Gigolas story From One Age to Another, which describes Gloin and Thranduil reacting to the discovery of their sons’ relationship. This podfic is made much more awesome than it would be otherwise by @hobbitystmarymorstan’s amazing cover art (sorry, tumblr is not letting me tag you properly here for some reason). Happy Hobbit Big Bang, folks!

We interrupt today’s marathon dissertation writing to bring you a progress update on my cosplay of
Barís

from @determamfidd‘s Sansukh. The undergown is now totally done (well, except for ironing that hem, but shhhhh)!
Honestly, if I were doing day-to-day
Barís instead of her court gown, I could probably just wear this as-is and call it good.

Like the undergarments, the whole thing is hand-sewn. I chose to make the sleeves separate pieces for this one, since I want to have pulls of that chemise showing where the overgown sleeves attach. I also left vents in the elbows of the undergown sleeves, both the give me the option for extra pulls there, and for the safe of freedom of movement. The whole thing is fully lined (with canvas in the bodice and sleeves, and with muslin  in the skirt) I might possibly add another petticoat at some point, since the skirt is a bit fuller than I had originally planned, and I have LOTS of extra muslin, but I am pleased with it overall.

Now, I think I’ll be taking a break from sewing for the next step, and focus on the hair and beard. And by “focus on”, I really mean order the wig and wefts, and then leave them alone until after I graduate. There’s no way I’ll have any significant amount of crafting time in the next month, and I don’t want to try and transport the overgown cross-country when it’s still in pieces. Besides, this way I can go to buy the overgown fabric in person, instead of ordering it offline. As an added bonus, once the wig and beard are done, this costume can actually be worn.
