Is the Gigolas/Bagginshield recs page a dead/abandoned page?

Whoops, no it isn’t, Nonnie! I am just tremendously slack about keeping everything updated regularly *sheepish smile* I tend to fly online for a couple of seconds, reblog madly, and zip away (in a cloud of stress). Housekeeping happens during the school holidays these days!!!

I DO have some recs that I intend to put on the list, short one-shots and also fics that I am currently reading (and enjoying like whoa!) I have listed a handful of them here, as a mea culpa. Sorry sorry sorry!!! I will get to it this weekend i hope

(these are predominantly Gigolas, though some few are Bagginshield, fyi)

I also have another list here that needs to be added to the main one… and another one here! GO FORTH AND READ 🙂

Mizim makes cupcakes with the Trouble Troupe and lets them decorate two each. Wee Thorin’s look nice enough, a solid effort. Balinith’s are Very Precise and show good line use. Gimizh is all “how much icing can this cupcake support?” Frerinith ate a bunch of icing and put something that vaguely resembles smily faces on his cupcakes.

pfffft sounds like a recipe for total disaster.

Gimizh would have gotten into a fight in under two minutes over hogging the icing bag, no doubt (he would have kept piping it into his mouth, the little grotty thing)

Now that it’s generally known that Bomfris is pregnant … Imagine all the baby stuff she and Thorin Stonehelm are getting. Some of it’s from family, some of it’s not. So we have some of Bomfris’s sibs with kids bringing hand-me-downs, various relatives/close friends on both sides bringing useful stuff, often handmade. Thorin is amazed at all the stuff that babies need. Bomfris is resigned. Jeri makes some cute crochet hats based on Thorin’s story of lack of head hair as a baby.

they do, they need So. Much. Stuff.

(all the lovely old second hand stuff from Dis brings a certain amount of sadness along with the gratitude.)

I know that you’ve talked about your ideas for daemon aus for the Company/fellowship, but do you have ideas for your oc’s and/or some of the other or minor characters in the hobbit/lotr? Like, Hrera might have a nice tastefully-coloured parrot. Very pretty, very smart, very people-oriented.

Oh cripes, lmaoooo – yeah

Um, it will not surprise anyone to discover that Baris’ daemon would totally be a lyrebird.

Hrera with a parrot is PERFECT, oh my sldjhgfsjh. The parrot would preen everyone in sight. It would also be quite noisy… and a flock parrot too, so perhaps a rainbow lorikeet? We have thousands of them around here, they’re beautiful… and BOSSY.

Lessee. Jeri? Would probably have a pony for a daemon, tbh. I’d say horse, but that’s WAY too large for a Dwarf!

Barur – Brown bear. Omnivorous, protective, big and clever? BEAR.

Genild – badger

Bani – Woodpecker

Beri – bobcat

(why do I like the idea of Bomfris’ daemon being Tuac???)

Thorin Stonehelm – tigress

Laerophen – a white-and-grey rat! (HIM A CLEVER CLOGS)

Laindawar – Elephant (YES HIS DAEMON WOULD BE BIGGER THAN HIM. ALSO VERY PROTECTIVE WITH A MEMORY LIKE WHOA. BWAAHAHAHAHA)

Gimizh – raccoon!!!! LITTLE SNEAK-THIEF, LITTLE BRINGER OF MAYHEM

Mizim – Red Bird-of-paradise

Gimris – snake, a nice pretty-patterned one

Thira – Beaver

Wee Thorin – Polar bear

Balinith – ring-tailed lemur, clever lil hands

Frerinith – marsupial possum!

Selga – Himalayan tahr

Merilin – NIGHTINGALE (what else lmao)

Orla – Cassowary (BE WARNED)

Okay, that’s all I can think of right now! If I’ve missed a character you really wanted to see, I’m very sorry, just let me know 🙂

Here’s the ones I did before, too!

I was reading Sansukh today and came upon the part where Legolas says “Gimli melin” and I realized “That sounds a lot like ‘mellon.’ What if he said ‘melin’ to Gimli and Gimli heard ‘mellon’ and was all, ‘Awww, that’s nice, I feel the same way about everyone in the fellowship.'” <— THE PERILS OF HOMONYMS! (Now I have to put something like this in my fanfic.)

lmaaaaaaaaaaaao – yes, um, Gimli, that does not mean what you think it means!

(I do enjoy the ole language shenanigans, heheheheheh)

So I was re-reading the wonderful Sansûkh and various writings it inspired, and I had a thought: Just as Thorin is the first (probably only) dead Dwarf to be given some tangible connection to the living, Gimli is the first (probably only) living Dwarf to get some tangible connection to the mysteries and the dead. And that served some purpose in defeating the Shadow, obviously, but that wasn’t the explicit reason for which Thorin got his gift, and that certainly had nothing to do with Gimli’s

…when he rejoins living dwarfs, especially others known to those who have passed? Will it be obvious to them? Will he tell them? I don’t know how I’ve avoided asking these burning questions to date, to be honest. I was so caught up in the amazing drama of Sansûkh that I didn’t even think them until the One Ring was finally destroyed.

(I think I am missing an ask in the middle here, Nonnie!)

YES, that’s absolutely spot on! The first Dwarf ever to see into the mysteries, to know more than the living are permitted to know? is Gimli, (That Legolas knows also… and Aragorn… well, please refer to Oin and Balin’s attitudes there)

The reason Thorin got his gift? the pity of Mahal.

The reason Gimli grows to hear him so clearly? Practice and proximity.

And yeah, their connection does has a role in the Ring War in Sansukh, definitely! BUT it was not the intent behind Thorin’s Gift, not at all. (of course, Irmo had to meddle… :DDD )

Oooh, I am guessing a little bit here – but yes, I believe the changes in Gimli will be immediately apparent to those who know him well. Whether they can guess why he has changed, and what those changes are, depends entirely on how perceptive they themselves are. For example: Gimris and Mizim are both quite perceptive, but uh. Bomfris. Is not.

We’ll find out how much Gimli tells when we get there, Nonnie! *hugs* thank you, this was an amazing ask, thank you so very very much!
