I’m on a Hobbit rewatch right now. I did like the Dol Guldur scenes with the White Council – for all the other faults of the films – because it was unexpected and Galadriel was given more opportunity to show just how scary she can be.
Galadriel has a very interesting history, and there was a time when she didn’t solely use magic. This is an armour concept for her, back in the First Age days, based on a sea serpent scales/feathers mix. I have yet to brave the Silmarillion, but there are great posts around on Tumblr that go into her backstory. ETA: later correction with more detail, better proportions.
YAAAS
Personally I suspect Tral-la-la-lally is just the Elvish way of throwing shade: making up dumb songs on the spot about people you want to mock.
Ah yes, the fabled dignity and subtlety of the Elvish race…

How different you think the quest/Thorin’s life would’ve been had Frerin survived the battle and lived by his side?
oooooh.
Very different, to be honest. I think Thorin would have been less sombre, less inclined to be alone in his thoughts. He would have laughed more readily.
I suspect that Frerin would have smoothed over a lot of ruffled feathers during the Quest. I can imagine our quick, cheerful Dawning Sun being his ray-of-sunshine self and charming the socks off every Elf… perhaps not Lindir, of course, but a few food-fights and a few barbed comments towards Elrond (”he made no mention of you”) might have been forgiven far more readily when the nice blond Dwarf is doing some diplomatic schmoozing.
I doubt Frerin would have failed to spot a frikking gigantic stone dwarf staircase.
IDK, there’s a few ways it could play out, Nonnie! Frerin might also succumb to gold-sickness, or he might not. The way I write him, he’s a peacemaker by nature… and so Bilbo might have had help in his plan.
I tell you something I know in my bones, though – there’s no way that Frerin would have let Thorin and his nephews (who after all, would have known him, and loved him) GO UP TO RAVENHILL WITHOUT HIM
So “ba” is one of the first baby sounds. So picture tiny Wee Thorin, who is really excited to see Balin, going ” Ba! Ba! Ba!” Because that’s what he calls his uncle, and being a mess of wriggles and frowns until he gets Balin cuddles.
OH MY POOR POOR HEART THAT’S ADORABLE
Can dwarves change their skynames? If not, how do Durin’s parents always know to call him(/her/them?) Durin?
I HAVE AN IDEA ABOUT THAT – but

Comfort – Dori
“Tea for Ori and a scarf for you if you are going out”
One of my entries for the HobbitCon 4 Fanbook Project
Whispers of course he would never get one (unless Thorin jokingly gave him one, lol) but if you /had/ to make a Dark Name for Bilbo, what would that name be? Feel free to take this as seriously as you wish ofc. I am totally up for Bilbo being called Sassmaster tbh.
LMAO what’s khuzdul for Sassmaster…? XD
Well, I do like that the Hobbits have their own language… it’s not a secret language like Khuzdul, but they have one! Not that it sees much use, mind.
Bilbo’s name, in the hobbit-tongue, is in fact Bilba Labingi.
(Frodo’s is Maura Labingi, Merry is Kalimac Brandagamba, Sam is
Banazîr Galpsi and Pippin is Razanur Tûk!)
A dark-name for Bilbs, though… arrrrrgh, this is a tricky one. Okay, I think I have something…
ararrakidazbur – The Secret Diamond
This would refer to both Bilbo’s rather unexpected heroism and bravery, his brilliant, blazingly bright mind, and his secretiveness (EXCESSIVE SECRECY HELLO). It could also be seen as a reference to his rather… cutting wit (like a diamond, hee!) and his spirit.
dazbur: containing diamond (shape)* (*diamond (stone))
ararraki: continue to keep secret / to keep secret excessively
Aragorn meeting Thorin in Arda Remade though, and being like, wow you’re my hero, Bilbo used to tell stories about you, they often gave me courage on my own adventure to reclaim my kingdom
The grey-eyed man was silent upon meeting the Dwarf-Lord. Wordlessly, he bowed low.
The Dwarf seemed puzzled. “And who am I, that the King Elessar should bow to me?”
“No longer Elessar, here,” the Man answered, head still bent and eyes lowered in respect. “All Kingdoms are washed away, the earth purified by fire. No crown has followed me into this new life. But I know you by your manner and bearing, Thorin Oakenshield. Bilbo often spoke of you, and Gimli also. Your tale gave me courage to continue when I would have turned aside.”
The Dwarf smiled. “Then I am glad. For what greater gift could I give than hope?”
And the Man, who had been Hope to so many, smiled in return and lifted his head to meet the Dwarf’s gaze. “I believe I understand what you mean.”
The Dwarf’s eyes were knowing, wise beyond their years as he turned to look out at the new world, shining and gleaming with the dew of a new morning. “If not you,” he murmured, “then who would?”
one day Gimizh gets to go on an adventure outside the mountain with his uncle Gimli. He sees a tree. It is so big. He must climb it. ‘Gimizh no!’ Gimli says. ‘Gimizh yes!’ he cries, already attached to the tree trunk like a limpet. ‘I will conquer this foe!’ ‘your mother is going to kill me’ Gimli says.
Gimris: You left my son where.
Gimli: He’s perfectly safe!
Gimris: Gimli.
Gimli: Well, you know the beech-trees on the southern slopes, the ones with the nice wide climbing branches… that are just a liiiiittle too slight to bear a fully-grown dwarf’s weight…?
Gimris: you orc-breathed SIMPLETON, YOU CAN’T LEAVE A CHILD UP A TREE!!!
Gimli: (backing away, eyes wide and hands raised) But it’s his kingdom now, he’s proud as can be, he did it all by him…! Gimris, ach… no, wait… I’m…!
Gimris: (dangerously) I’d run, if I were you, nadad. Because if I can catch you, I AM GOING TO PULL EVERY HAIR FROM YOUR CHIN.
Gimli: (runs for it)
{Meanwhile, up a tree}
Gimizh: An’ I’m the boss now, so you do as I say. King Gimizh of the tree!
Random Squirrel: (throws a nut at him)
