Just curious but do you like Movie Hobbit more or Book Hobbit?I was initially quite angry on how they make it into a trilogy, assuming they just wanna cash more money but after watching vids on how they developed Hobbit with so many research and effort I am not so sure now.

Hey Nonnie!

I like both 🙂 I hold the books very dear to my heart, though I use a lot of stuff from the films also!

Like, there’s stuff that is purely from the movies alone that I really, REALLY LOVE. In the book, Thorin has a long white beard he can tuck into his belt… so yep, I rather like the movie ideas there. Distinguishing the Company from each other and giving them all such distinctive stories and characters was also fab. I love the film addition of Tauriel. Smaug was awesome. Loved how chilly and poised Thranduil was.

(I am less sold on Super 8-Bit Legolas though. And I am honestly very annoyed that they took Dain’s young life and moment of badassery, and basically cut-and-pasted it onto Thorin.)

The team behind the films really DID do yonks and yonks of research! which makes the decision to put giant earthworms into the battle of Five Armies even more inexplicable to me

And the detail and thought and love and craft which goes into the costuming and crafting and miniatures and god, EVERYTHING that is created for these films is simply astounding.

I have to admit, though, even with all the incredible detail and extra characterisation the films have given to us, when held at knifepoint I would have to admit that I do prefer the book. It’s been a friend since I was seven.

(oh, and also – the book has Dori carrying a moaning Bilbo around on his back like a sad Hobbit-Backpack for at least four chapters, what is not to love about that)

Good day to you. Do you think,if you don’t mind, that dwarf/dwarrows would shave their baby’s hair or not?coz in my culture at least hair is very important and shaving is related to shaming/Buddhism but we would shave babies’ hair for stronger and healthier hair.I was thinking how good that the dwarf has so many hair and stuff like wow what is their secret.I bet a lot of human would like to know that secret.

omg – Nonnie, I have no idea? Perhaps some Dwarves would absolutely swear by the practice, in order for their little pebble to have a luxurious head of hair later on in life? But others might be OUTRAGED – i don’t know, I can’t decide, but what a fascinating idea! Thank you so much for sharing it with me!

May I ask a question? I’ve been seeing a lot of Dain hate, in fics, posts on here, or in rps I do sometimes, and although I usually just ‘nope’ right out without saying anything, it’s got me thinking. Do you think that people would be as harsh as they are on him if he was an elf? A hobbit? Or even an Ereborean dwarf? Because Dain sacrifices a lot, suffers a hell of a lot, and it seems like no one cares? It just bugs me, I don’t know why.

Oh Nonnie. *hugs* sorry you’re getting confronted with that selfish crap.

I think you’re doing the right thing by ‘noping’ out of it.

I’m so tired, myself.

I don’t read new Bagginshield fics anymore because I am so tired. I don’t trust anymore. I no longer follow the Bagginshield tag, either. I’m just so tired of seeing my brave heroic noble loyal fave get twisted into something completely disgusting and totally unrecognisable.

And I’m tired of people not tagging their character-hate.

Yeah, probably. Dain isn’t ‘pretty’ or magical, after all. Bard and Thranduil treat the Dwarves with extreme harshness: actually blackmailing them with a treasure of their people in order to guarantee the behaviour they want. This? Is pretty low behaviour? And Gandalf is the master-manipulator of Thorin’s need for vengeance. He takes advantage of people, ffs – it’s part of his JOB.

But there are one zillion sympathetic portrayals of Bard, Thranduil (ESPECIALLY) and Gandalf. Not so for Dain.

I know why it bugs me, and yes, it’s because barely anybody cares. It’s virtually nonexistent to see someone who actually tags their character-hate, or even considers that they might be hurting Dain-fans. It bugs me that these folks can’t put themselves in someone else’s shoes even for a second, to think ‘wow, yeah, that would SUCK if it were my favourite character, constantly and universally villainised and distorted by fandom.’ Not even for a second

I’ve been through all the justifications and ‘reasons’ for why it is so common to put one character through such a universal tidal-wave of character bashing/assassination before, and I’m tired of THAT, too.

The Dain-bashing has nearly driven me away from the fandom on several occasions, honestly. I’m so tired. Now if I see Dain-bashing, I block that person. Straight away. I’m done. I am done.

So, Nonnie, you opened a can of very unhappy worms by sending this ask, sorry about the bitter rant.
