shout out to thorin oakenshield for getting lost in the shire not once, but twice

#not all those who wander are lost #(but some are)

too majestic to ask for directions

Even the ring wraiths asked for directions.

Even the ring wraiths asked for directions

I can imagine how it went

If thorin and frerin are like ori dori and nori, they might go by the brothers rin. But frerins name already basically means that. I’m not phrasing it well but what if frerin was like.. A placeholder name just bc tolkein couldn’t think of anything better than “rin brother”

Oooh yeah! It’s been suggested with evidence that ‘Dis’ simply means ‘sister’ – so, it’s possible that Tolkien had a couple of placeholder names there!

… or he was subtly suggesting that Thrain and his partner used up all their naming creativity on their firstborn, idk!!

know what kinda breaks my heart? Bilbo’s long introductory monologue of AUJ, where he’s like “ahh, Frodo… Erebor! The greatest kingdom in Middle-Earth!” and then describes its utter glory in such *detail* and such feeling, and it’s just like… Bilbo… honey… you were never THERE. You’ve never SEEN it like this; only empty and burnt and desolate. He talks as if he witnessed it himself before the Dragon came, when really, only Thorin and Balin could’ve told such tales.

you come into my inbox and leave unadulterated pain

fenrisesque:

stop mkaing christmas icons of canonically jewish characters

stop making christmas icons of fenris

of thorin

of gimli

of steven

stop!!!!

so I saw this and wanted to boost this for my fellow people of the lotr/the hobbit fandom: it takes a 3-second google search to find that the Dwarves in Middle Earth are coded as Jewish, Tolkien himself admitted as much (many times, in fact)

so can we keep this in mind this December?

(when it comes to Elves or Gondorians or Hobbits doing Christmassy things, sure go wild.)

have you ever seen this fanart? kurosmind(.)tumblr(.)com/post/126685213041 I know it’s not for Sansûkh, but it reminds me a lot of it

OH GOD NO I’D NEVER SEEN THAT – somehow I’d missed it (HOW, I love Kuro’s art, HOW did I miss it) and now my heart hurts. It is utterly utterly GORGEOUS – full of detail and soul and atmosphere – and oh, god, also so heartbreaking.

gonna reblog it now, Nonnie. Thank you for bringing it to my attention!
