On the topic of Thorin III/awkward butterknife, do you have a headcanon for where the epithet “Stonehelm” actually came from?

Yes I do! 

At first I actually thought it would be a battle thing – that he gained it during BOTFA by headbutting people like his dad. (which he would have – his nutting ability is mighty and to be feared.)

Now I sort of want it to be a nickname that becomes an epithet… ish? That a small Thorin in the Iron Hills once got so cross at a battle-ram that he headbutted it squarely – and the ram ran away.

So, he got called ‘Stonehelm’ as a little one, and it stuck (much the same way that Wee Thorin is stuck with ‘Wee Thorin’, lol). Nowadays, most Dwarves would believe that the epithet refers to his battle-bonce, but a select few know better.

when Jeri hears the story from Thira, they don’t stop teasing the Stonehelm about it for a whole week

This is my best attempt at “burly,” nooot my specialty XD I definitely can’t take as much credit for this design as usual XD I think the red beard originated with poplitealqueen, along with maybe him having some kind of blue face tats?  Though now the beard is fic canon anyways ;p I’m gonna go with this being some months after the siege, while his beard is growing back out.  We’re gonna ignore him having both the tusks and the braids, yes?  Yes. XD  Also, I expect he would be like his dad and not want to wear that heavy crown most of the time.  >.>
