THAT WAS UNCALLED FOR
Oooh, ANOTHER Headcanonpalooza! That makes this one Part 8!
Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, Part 4, Part 5, Part 6, Part 7,
(seriously, if you need a smile, read through these. They’re all SO. DAMN. CUTE.)
FAT BABY FRERIN IS GODDAMN REAL AND TRUE. and aaargh, little scowly Fili with the important little stare, that outraged toddler stare is the absolute best.
Awww, and I really feel Dori’s pain here *looks sadly at where orange crayon has yet again been applied on the walls and couch and doors*
PFFFFFT I LOVE IT
SO MANY FEELS. Ohhhh gosh, absolutely yes. ❤
(I adore my version of Vili, I am not too embarrassed to say! I like to think that Fili took longer to warm up to him, but in the end was the first one to look for Vili’s approval and pride in him. Augh. AUGH)
Oh my god, Fris and Thrain would be the PERFECT people to talk to about this. Fris is just so emotionally intelligent and competent, and Thrain has learned (the hard way) not to be impatient. So he knows not to push people, to let things unfold at their own pace and to give people an undemanding space.
I bet Vili went to them as well, for advice… and yeah, Nain and Daeris would probably have a quiet word with them as well.
And yeah, I think Dain and Thorin and the lads would probably have a beer or two together, and Fili would tell them how it felt to realise that he looked like his father and like Frerin. How he was both happy to have Vili back, and angry that he died and left them in the first place. And Kili will tell them how hard it was to begin calling Vili ‘Dad’, and how both of them still look to Thorin for approval instead of their father. How Fili often accompanies Vili on his visits to Erebor each morning. The day Vili showed Kili how to carve runestones.
And Thorin will take a sip of his drink to hide the emotion in his eyes (it doesn’t work) – and Dain will grumble that it’s just so hard to let them help, he’s not a Dwarfling anymore and he’s been standing on his own feet… uh, foot… for centuries, and it feels.. wrong. And Thorin will latch onto the change of topic gratefully and laugh, and tell Dain that he should be grateful he does not have Queen Hrera for a grandmother. She still treats Thorin like he is all of twenty-two years old.
I haven’t actually ever watched SU – though I have seen a LOT of it on my dash (and oh my god, Steven himself, what a little cutiepie) and I love the look of it, and the messages. Definitely something I will watch eventually!
AWWWWW GREG, he is a sweetie from all I have seen! Yeah, Vili is a lot like that. He’s very low-key, but always tries in his understanding and understated way to be there for his lads. He’s absolutely aware that, although they have learned to love him and call him ‘dad’, he wasn’t able to be that for them. Thorin was their father in all but name.
Vili doesn’t have any animosity about that, or hold onto any poisonous jealousy for Thorin or anything. He’s a sensible Dwarf, he’s perfectly aware that spite and jealousy would just drive a wedge into everything and eventually the boys would withdraw entirely away from him – well, who wouldn’t?
Vili looks after Thorin in his warm, humorous and low-key way as well. He worries. They’re unlikely friends. He’s incredibly grateful to Thorin, for being there when he could not, for ensuring that the lads knew what it felt like to be loved by a father-figure. His priority is not ever himself, or his own feelings.
Vili is a Good Dad, even though he isn’t the one who filled that role in his boys’ life. 🙂
I feel Dis’ pain! (I have Raynaud’s Phenomenon, myself) GRRR PERPETUALLY COLD FEET.

AWWW

8000x SADDER AUGH

zksdgfjlsdhgjfalsgfaljshdgfsakjhfdajsh AUGH DIS FEELS AUGH OH NONNIE YEOUCH
It’d take some time, I think, for her to get to the stage of teasing and chasing again. My version of old!Dis is not cheery and brisk and sassy, after all… she is grim and hurt and hard hard hard, turned very nearly to ice by everything she has lost. Song of Steel, her Dark-name means. It suits her.
I think she would need to learn to smile again, to laugh and tease freely without bitterness. She has been alone so long, and that doesn’t just evaporate… She should never be left alone, not ever.
Her boys staying close, their heads resting on her knees or lying on the floor as they read or play a game or talk… her brothers always flanking her as they show her the Halls together… Hrera working beside her at her jewellery-table, Thror bringing her meals… Dain plopping a sweet and sleepy piglet into her lap… Thrain kissing her brow and never letting go of her hand, Fris always humming so that Dis can hear her, stroking back her hair…
Vili, holding her tight at night, so that she never wakes and thinks herself back in her huge and cold bed in Erebor, so very alone, always alone.
