Ok so my birthday is tomorrow and as hobbits do (I am tooootally a hobbit) I have decided to give you a gift in the form of some Sincere Compliments: I’m a writer, and honestly you have inspired me so much. From your style to your ocs- everything has made me want to do better. And now, although I’m still quite young, I have decided to begin writing a novel bc of you!!! You just are such a nice person, and that shows in your writing in a weird way?? Like, before I saw your blog I could tell (1/2)

(2/2) that you were a nice person. Is that weird? I don’t know, just the way you made me feel such genuine emotions- like I WAS the characters. Also, as a queer and autistic person, I am also very happy that you included representation!!! I’m going to cut myself off before this turns into a rambling mess, but to get to the gist: you are such an inspiration to me, and I am so thankful you exist and I can talk to you. <3333

oh my gosh – okay, I am probably a million years late, but HAPPY BIRTHDAY first of all!! I hope you had a stellar day, and that you have a FABULOUS year!

Secondly: GOOD LUCK AND CONGRATS ON YOUR NOVEL WRITING! Go go go go go, you amazing writer person! I am behind you 90000%, and godspeed to your typing fingers, may the inspiration flow thick and fast!

Thirdly: asdgfljashlszhdgfjLHSDGFLJAHDSGKFAFDGAK. Ahhhh, I am tongue-tied and bashful and good gravy, hgelp me I am bad at such beaut compliments, aaaaaaah you are welcome and thank you so so so so much

  • If you sometimes feel like it was pure, ridiculous hubris that you ever started a story that would take so much work and persistence to finish, I promise you, you’re not alone.
  • If you feel like you’ve already been writing forever and the “good bits” are still ages away, you’re not alone.
  • If you’ve been stuck for days or weeks or longer because you know what happens later but you don’t know what happens next, you’re not alone.
  • If you’re desperate to squeal about your beloved OTP but you feel like you can’t, because spoilers, and it’s driving you nuts, you’re not alone.
  • If you feel like you’ll never finish and you’re bound to fuck it up somehow, you’re not alone.
  • If you wonder if you’ve sabotaged yourself because who’s going to click through to a 28 chapter WIP, you’re not alone.
  • If you feel like you’ve been pouring your life into a single story for ages and will be for ages still and you don’t know why anymore because hardly anyone seems to care, you’re not alone.
  • If you can hardly even plan the further-away parts of the story or even think about them because thinking about them reminds you how absurdly far you still have to go and you get massive anxiety, please believe me.  You are not alone.

Dear longfic writers

  • I fucking live for your work. Like I love me a little one-shot or a medium-length fic but srsly give me that 100k+ (200k? 300k? yes pls) goodness.
  • I am constantly in awe of your ability to stick with your story, to keep your plot moving and your characters’ relationships developing like just damn.
  • I don’t judge if your updates are erratic. If you’re worried about too much time passing between updates, just know that I and so many others squeal with joy when we get that subscriber notification in our inboxes.
  • There is literally nothing more glorious than watching characters develop through a long-ass fic. Relationships, friendships, character growth? Sometimes after I’ve finished a longfic or I’ve gotten to the last update I’ll go back and reread the first couple chapters just to see how far my babies have come.
  • If you stop updating your fic for whatever reason, that’s okay. We as readers are just lucky to have been graced with your story as long as you chose to write it. You’ve been gifting us with time and effort for this long and we appreciate it.
  • As someone who has had multiple longfic ideas and either (1) got through two chapters and gave up or (2) was too overwhelmed by how much work it would take to actually write, you are my literal superheroes.
  • You are brave and persistent and creative and a gift to fandom, and if you ever need a pep talk I am here to love on you.

I feel everything @rederiswrites said and adore everything @wrecked-anon added

All my hearfelt kudos.

How to Use a Semicolon

poplitealqueen:

Sit the fuck down, kids. It’s time to learn something.

Ever wondered how you could use this nice, spicy piece of punctuation mark without looking like a dumbass? Here’s an easy, fandom-esque version of doing just that!

First of all, what the fuck is a semicolon for? A semicolon is used to indicate a pause, much like a period or a comma. The difference is that the pause isn’t quite as long as an end mark, nor as brief as the pause of a comma. It’s nice and comfortable in the middle, like the smallest character in your OT3 after the big fuckapalooza chapter.

How the Hell do you use a semicolon? Simple! Here’s a few rules to live by:

*Use a semicolon to separate independent clauses not linked by a coordinating conjunction ( things like this: and, but, or…)

Example: Chirrut believes in the power of the Force; Baze believes in the power of really fucking OP blaster cannons.

*Use a semicolon to separate independent clauses connected by a conjunctive adverb such as however, therefore, nevertheless, furthermore, and consequently.

Example: Gimli and Legolas fucked constantly during their Quest with Aragorn; however, the two swear up and down that they are not a couple.

*Use a semicolon in a series with internal punctuation. In a complex series, it may be hard for readers to know if commas are a part of items or separating the items. In such cases, semicolons can be used to separate the items.

Example: Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan have made out all across the galaxy, but especially all over Coruscant, from the Jedi Temple to Palpatine’s office; on Naboo, in the Lake Country; and on Tatooine, on top of the Skywalker Angst Hill.

*Use a semicolon between independent clauses if commas are in one or both of the clauses.

Example: Hera loves Ahsoka, that strong, mysterious former Jedi; and best of all, Ahsoka loves her, too.

I hope that was informative for you! Remember, punctuation can make or break your writing. Use it wisely.

(Special thanks to Grammar Sucks – What to Do to Make Your Writing Much More Better by Joanne Kimes & Gary Robert Muschla for having such a fantastic section on punctuation.)

one of my favourite things about fanfiction is I can almost always find some way to contact the author, the actual human being who sat down and wrote this collection of words that I love so much and scream at them

and usually they scream back and it’s a wonderful exchange of happy

you just can’t do that with published authors. You can scream, but you’re screaming into a Lovecraftian void and they almost never have the chance to scream back

I love fanfic authors so much. thanks for letting me scream at you about things we mutually love

as a fanfic reader and writer I also love this thing

dude. as a fanfic writer this is like, my life. I’m not writing this for money I’m writing it so someone can message me and be like “THEN HE DID THE THING” and me go “YEAH OMG OMG I KNOW WHEN I WROTE THAT I WAS LIKE HE MUST TO THE THING!!!!”

it’s so…. it’s so needed to have this kind of contact.

Do you do NaNoWriMo? Lovely new chapter.

Thank you so much!

Nope, I don’t. It’s not that I wouldn’t like to, one day. It’s that I know my own “””SCHEDULE””” (she says sarcastically, heh). I couldn’t guarantee that I would keep to the 50K wordcount deadline.

I mean, I can pump out 10K in a couple of days, if I am in a good headspace and if I have the time. If I am in a good headspace!

(if I’m down, lol no)

It’s coming up to the end of the school year here in Australia, and I am a teacher. I am NOT going to have the time, sadly. So, for the meanwhile I will I just putter along at my own stop-start speed!

do you ever read fanfiction so good you wish it was a book that you could buy and put on some shelf in your bedroom and gaze at sometimes and remember how amazing that motherfucker was instead of having to squint at it on your too bright phone screen at 3 am

@sansukh
@determamfidd your work is exactly like this. I wish i could buy it.
