rainglazed:

Project “Love Up Fic Writers” is go.

In light of the recent spike in negativity directed towards fandom writers I’m issuing a personal challenge to myself (and anyone else who wants to join) to perform at least one (1) act of kindness and/or encouragement towards fanfic writers a day for the month of May, particularly towards authors who are often overlooked or are not as well publicized.

Acts of encouragement include leaving comments, writing notes of appreciation, assembling rec lists, and creating fic illustrations, music, graphics, gifsets, etc, as well as other shows of appreciation not listed.  It can be as casual or labor intensive as your personal comfort level allows (I’m sure a lot of you guys do these things already lol) as long as the act shows your personal appreciation towards the writers in your life.

Note: Please don’t use this as an opportunity to lash out at popular fandom writers or perceived BNF’s – this is a challenge to uplift the fanfiction writing community as a whole and particularly those who aren’t told often enough how much we appreciate their efforts.

last night I had a dream of mailing a notebook to fellow writers

each person writing a little snippet/paragraph/poem/quote etc before mailing it on to the other person

and I dunno, it just seemed so lovely

I would do this with you. And anyone else who wants to.

Babe if you wanna start a notebook do it, start the first page and mail it to me, I’ll mail it to Libby, we will continue on with it!

I am so down for this! And we can add people to the mailing list and even get it to circle around to add more and read what was written after our entries.

and I guess it’d be easier to send it to as many people in the same country before mailing it off somewhere else. should I set up a sideblog to keep track of it? and for other peeps to join in as well?

This is awesome. I am tentatively in, though I wonder if I could possibly be any good at contributing. diemarysues, put me down for the australian tour. determamfidd, thudworm, you guys in for this part of the stop?

Sure! Count me in!

Me too! I’m on board!

Okay, so I read chapter 35 at way too late at night, and cried myself a river like everyone else, then went to bed. My comments are on A03 and I love SansĂ»kh more with every update. But that’s not my question. I was wondering, what is proper protocol when you find typos in fanfic? I do some copyediting, so I always find them. And I would report them to the author (cause they’re easy to fix!) but some seem offended by that. So I ask you as an author I respect a great deal, what do you think?

Wow, thank you!

Well, I don’t have a problem with it at all! I do my own editing, so if anybody finds a typo I am always really grateful if they drop me a “psst found a typo here: [quote goes here]”. Sometimes it’s an intentional word use or contraction or accent, but sometimes it isn’t!

I don’t know, I really don’t think there’s a rule that works for everyone in fanfiction. Some people might be really happy to have their typos/mispellings gently pointed out (me!), but for some it might be really confronting. *shrug* Depends on the author, I guess!
